Biography: life and films

Abstract picture representing Anemone
Anémone (birth name: Anne Bourguignon) was born in Paris on 9th August 1950. Despite being born into a prosperous bourgeois family, she proved to be something of a rebel and made her acting debut at the cafe-théâtre as part of the anarchic comedy troupe Splendid. She took her stage name from the name of the character she played in her first film, Philippe Garrel's Anémone (1968). After a slow start, her screen career finally got going when Coluche gave her her first substantial role in his madcap historical comedy Vous n'aurez pas l'Alsace et la Lorraine (1977). Throughout the 1980s, Anémone was one of the best-known actresses in France, regularly appearing in popular comedies that included Patrice Leconte's Viens chez moi, j'habite chez une copine (1981), François Leterrier's Les Babas Cool (1981) and Jean-Marie Poiré's screen version of the Splendid troupe's phenomenally successful stage play Le Père Noël est une ordure (1982). Although best known as a comedic actress, Anémone also proved that she could also handle serious dramatic roles, including the one that won her a César in 1988 for Jean-Loup Hubert's Le Grand Chemin. Although less noticeable in the following decade, she continued to garner critical praise, for her performances in such films as Christine Pascal's Le Petit prince a dit (1992). Meanwhile, she resumed her stage career, in productions of Jean-Noël Fenwick's Potins d'enfer and Molière's L'Avare.
