Wings of Courage (1995)
Directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud

Adventure / Short / Romance

Film Review

This was the first IMAX film that was not a documentary, and since there are not many IMAX theatres few people saw it.  That's a shame because Wings of Courage is very good.  Like all of Annaud's work the film is stunningly photographed and the period re-creation (the late 20's) is convincing.  Gabriel Yared's score is also very good (and is available on a rare soundtrack CD).   Based on a true story , Wings of Courage is a testament to the human spirit.  If I have one quibble, it is the casting. This film tells a French story, and it would be more appropriate if the actors were French.   3 stars.
