Turf (2013)
Directed by Fabien Onteniente

Comedy

Film Synopsis

Betting on the horses is something of a national obsession in France.  For four Parisian friends, it has become an essential part of their routine.  Fifi, Fortuné, Freddy and the Greek are the bookies' best friend, all eager to fritter away their meagre resources in the vain hope of winning a fortune.  In the end, even these four come to realise they are wasting their time and their hard-earned cash, so they finally agree to quit and find a more profitable way to spend their lives.  It isn't long before they break their resolution.  Monsieur Paul, a legend of the turf on account of his unerring ability to spot a winner, pounces on the four friends when they least expected it and makes them an offer which they are powerless to refuse.

It had never occurred to Freddy and his buddies to buy a racehorse of their own, and this is what Monsieur Paul is offering them now.  And not just any racehorse - a racehorse that is a guaranteed winner!  How can they resist such a tempting offer?  Yielding once more to their fatal addiction for gambling on the gee-gees, the four friends club together and with their limited resources they are able to buy the horse from their supposed benefactor.  Unfortunately, they have yet to discover that the horse they have acquired is a clapped out old nag that stands as much chance of winning a horse race as a one-legged tortoise.  This setback isn't going to put them off though.  They have made their investment and they are determined to collect.  This is a case of Monte Carlo or bust...
