Film Synopsis
Sophie, a ten-year-old boarder at an orphanage in London, is an insomniac who gets through the night by reading voraciously. One night, she sees an aged, seven-metre high giant outside the building and is immediately afraid. Everyone knows that giants are despicable fiends who like nothing better than to eat little boys and girls. But Sophie's giant is different - he is kind and gentle, and a vegetarian to boot. Sophie soon takes a liking to her BFG (Big Friendly Giant). Knowing that he cannot let the little girl go now that he has seen her, the giant has no option but to take her with him to the kingdom of the giants. He explains to her that his work consists of capturing dreams and dispersing them amongst sleeping children. Sophie is pleased to assist the giant in his task, but her presence soon attracts the attention of other giants, none of whom is as agreeable as the one she has befriended...© James Travers
