Tabataba (1988)
Directed by Raymond Rajaonarivelo

Drama

Film Synopsis

Tanala is a small village lost in the deep valleys of east Madagascar.  The arrival of a Malagasy with new ideas from the town will unsettle the peaceful life of the local peasants.  The newcomer exhorts everyone to rise up against the whites and fight for independence.  But for the villagers rebellion will take different forms.   There are some who believe in the democratic process, and there are others who prefer to take up arms.  But the outcome will be the same in either case: a dramatic upset for the entire village.
