Film Synopsis
Nène is the affectionate name by which Madeleine is known to
the two youngsters under her care, Lalie and Jo. These two are the
children of a young farmer named Michel Corbier who is reluctant to re-marry
after his wife died. If Nène is a substitute mother for
the two children, she is nothing more than a housekeeper for their father.
Meanwhile, Madeleine's brother Jean is about to get married to a girl named
Violette in a nearby village. Violette's uncle Boisseriot hasn't forgiven
Madeleine for spurning his advances so he takes his revenge by telling Jean
that his daughter is going to marry Corbier. Naturally, Jean is outraged
by this turn of events and, despite his sister's intervention, he takes his
anger out on the unsuspecting farmer. Violette blames Madeleine for
what has happened and arranges for her to be dismissed. After bidding
Michel's children a fond final farewell, the unfortunate young woman takes
her leave, one more victim of the world's cruel injustices...
