Les Fraises des bois (2012)
Directed by Dominique Choisy

Drama

Film Synopsis

At first sight, it would seem that Violette and Gabriel have nothing to connect them.  The first lives in the depths of the Picardy countryside with her parents on a thriving family farm.  The second scrapes a living as a lowly cashier in a supermarket.  Violette and Gabriel belong to two completely different worlds and yet they share the same burning desire to escape from the suffocating, life-sapping milieus in which they have become imprisoned.  Both are weighed down by their dark secrets and have a desperate need to run away and start a new life somewhere else.

When these two young people meet it seems that Fate has given them both a chance to realise their dreams - each apparently holds the key to the other's freedom.  Violette wants only to rid herself of the oppressive tyranny of her family; Gabriel seeks only release from the injustice of an economic system that favours only the rich.  Together, they might just have a chance of finding happiness, but the struggle will not be easy.  Both will need courage and determination if they are to tear themselves away from the paths that have been mapped out for them...
