Le Soleil en face (1980)
Directed by Pierre Kast

Drama
aka: Face to the Sun

Film Synopsis

After a humiliating appearance on a television show, Marat, a winner of the Prix Goncourt, takes up residence in a small fishing village in southern Portugal. He is accompanied by his wife Geneviève, a painter, and meets up with a friend Sandra and her two nieces, Nathalie and Catherine.  A lifelong supporter of leftwing politics, Marat has become disillusioned with socialism, which nowadays appears to be lacking in inspiration and direction.  He accepts life's upsets with a certain detachment, even Catherine's decision to end their clandestine affair so that she can start a relationship with Joachim, a musician of her own age.  Things change dramatically when Marat is diagnosed with an incurable cancer...
