Film Synopsis
Max Bernier, a burned-out writer, lives in splendid isolation on a hill overlooking
the seductive azure waters of the Mediterranean. As he tries to summon
up his inspiration, he spends his days languorously relaxing beneath a hot
summer sun, in the company of his occasional muse, Luce. Max's tranquil
retreat is suddenly invaded by a gang of armed crooks who have just stolen
250 kilograms in gold from an armoured van. Led by ageing hoodlum Rhino,
the gang desperately needs a place to hide out until things have cooled down
a little, and the Max Bernier residence seems to be the ideal spot.
Unfortunately, the cops are not so easily diverted and they soon show up,
determined to recover the gold and bring the crooks to justice by any means
at their disposal. Before Max has time to take in what is happening,
his former idyllic haven is transformed into a raging battlefield straight
out of a Sam Peckinpah movie. Just when things couldn't possibly get
any more fraught, Max's wife and son turn up out of the blue, and find far
more than they bargained for in this supposed haven of peace...
