Film Synopsis

Valentin is a young painter who appears to live in a dream world.  He sees everything through the eyes of an artist and yet, for some reason, he is incapable of completing a single picture.  In the hope of regaining his inspiration, he visits his aged grandmother Nina, a Polish émigré.  Valentin has long been interested in his family's history, but no one seems willing to talk to him about it.  He is sure that Nina holds the key to the mystery, but she appears stubbornly silent, unable to divulge the secrets that have caused her so much personal pain.  Valentin has his own store of problems and offers an account of his tortured love life - he recalls losing his heart to a boy whose memory still haunts him.  Pressed by her grandson, Nina wonders if the time has come to unburden the terrible secrets that she has carried with her for so long...
