Film Synopsis

Being the daughter of Gérard de Narbonne, one of the most distinguished medical practitioners of the 16th century, Aliénor was bound to become a physician of some repute herself.  Her healing skills are appreciated by the King of France, whose life is threatened by a fistula.  Once cured of his affliction, the king shows his gratitude by offering Aliénor anything her heart craves. Naturally, she chooses to be betrothed to the man she has loved since childhood, the dashing nobleman Bertrand de Roussillon.  Despite the fact that he has no feelings at all for Aliénor and is unwilling to marry her, Bertrand knows he has no choice but to acquiesce to his king's request and the marriage goes ahead as planned.  Not long after the wedding, Aliénor is surprised when her husband suddenly goes missing.  It seems that Bertrand cannot bring himself to consummate the marriage, so he has fled to Sienna to join the woman he loves, Lisotta...
