Djam (2017)
Directed by Tony Gatlif

Drama

Film Synopsis

Djam is a free-spirited young woman who lives on the island of Lesbos with her stepfather Kakourgos, a restaurant owner who is in some financial difficulty.  Fearing that the bailiffs will do their worst if he leaves his residence even for a few hours, the latter sends his daughter on a special mission to Turkey, to obtain a hard-to-come-by part to repair the engine of his precious boat.  Not long after her arrival in Turkey, Djam comes across a feisty 19-year-old French girl named Avril, who is involved with voluntary work to help immigrants in the region.  Having no money and no means of identification, Avril is unable to return home and finds herself stranded in a foreign land with no one to help her.  Djam takes pity on her and offers to accompany her back to Greece on foot.  Despite their obvious difference in temperament, the two women soon form a close bond of attachment as they undertake what will be an eventful voyage of discovery, punctuated by many surprising detours and unexpected encounters...
