Film Synopsis

In the not too distant future, Béatrice is a 16-year-old girl who is confronted with a decision that will determine the future course of her life.  She lives in a post-apocalyptic world in which human society is organised into five distinct social groupings, their titles denoting their primary characteristics:  the Sincere, the Erudite, the Altruists, the Audacious and the Fraternal.  Béatrice is now at the age when she must choose which of these five factions to belong to.   To guide her in her choice, she must begin by taking a special aptitude test, but to her surprise the result is inconclusive.

Apparently, the teenager has the character traits of more than one group, which makes her a Divergent, one of the few who will not readily fit into any of the five factions.  Divergents are considered dangerous by the government, owing to their capacity for free thought.  Factionless, these unfortunates are driven away and mercilessly hunted down.  Realising the danger she is now in, Béatrice keeps her divergent identity to herself and decides to pass herself of as one of the Audacious.  Renaming herself Tris, she agrees to submit herself to a series of incredibly demanding challenges that will test her resolve and bravery.  If she fails the test, she will be forced to join the ranks of the Factionless...
