Comme des lions (2016)
Directed by Françoise Davisse

Documentary / History

Film Synopsis

It was in February 2012 that the documentary filmmaker Françoise Davisse learned of the closure of a car factory in Aulnay, Poitou-Charentes, in the southwest of France.  With a workforce in excess of three thousand people, the factory is one of the biggest employers in the region, so the closure is likely to have a massive impact on the local economy, as well as individual employees, who will have great difficulty finding jobs in the area after being laid off.  The news comes mid-way through the French presidential election campaign, and the socialist candidate François Hollande promises the matter will receive his attention if he is elected.  Several months later, with Holland now president, the factory's closure is firmly assured, despite the determination of its staff to keep it open...
