Film Synopsis

Yves Zand, a rigorously auteur film director, has started work on his dream project - a biographical film of the iconic French singer Barbara. A talented young actress named Brigitte has been chosen to play the lead role and everything seems to be going according to plan. It isn't long before Yves and Brigitte have become totally immersed in their art, each committed to unravelling the identity of the mythic chanteuse who was a legend in her own lifetime - if only in France.

By closely studying archive material of the singer, Brigitte manages to replicate her gestures, expressions and intonations so perfectly that she might easily be mistaken for Barbara herself. Yves is just as manically precoccupied with authenticity and soon loses himself in what becomes less a film project and more a burning obsession. But which fascinates him most - the subject of his film or the woman he has chosen to bring her back to life...?
