Film Synopsis

Édouard Péricourt and Albert Maillard are two ordinary men who manage to get themselves caught up in the madness of the First World War.  The first is a gifted designer, the other a lowly bank employee.  Just before the armistice is signed in November 1918, Édouard saves Albert, and in doing so establishes a bond of friendship that will endure after the war.  As a nation mourns its dead, these two ex-combatants will profit from the massive outpouring of grief by embarking on a fantastic swindle.

Édouard and Albert are not the only ones to enrich themselves by such an act of brazen opportunism.  Their former commanding officer, Lieutenant Pradelle, the man who almost cost them their lives by sending them off on an ill-advised attack just before the war ended, has similar designs.  Whilst the remains of their fallen comrades lie decomposing on the battlefields of France, these three men are about to become stupendously rich as they launch themselves on what will be the greatest gamble of their lives...
