Film Synopsis
At Nyon's cultural centre, amidst the bustling crowds of bargain hunters,
Marie and her boyfriend are manning a second-hand book stall when they are
drawn into an intellectual conversation with another couple. Nearby,
an unattached man named Gédéon offers his services to a woman,
Josette, who has just been verbally assaulted by her husband. After
an interval of some months, Gédéon and Josette are seen enjoying
an idyllic love affair in the country. On one of their
outdoor excursions they encounter a friendly stray dog named Roxy which they
feel bound to adopt. Roxy is left behind when finally the couple
part. In a parallel story strand, the cultural centre serves as the
meeting point for another couple, Marcus and Ivitch. Theirs proves
to be a tempestuous relationship, and when Marcus wryly comments that they
should have had children his partner viciously retorts that she would rather
have had a dog. The narrative ends with Roxy back in the countryside,
peacefully meditating on the mysteries of life.
