Film Synopsis
In 1972, Djibril Diop Mambety made the film
Touki Bouki. In it, Mory and
Anta are in love, two young people who share the same dream, to leave
Dakar and start a new life in Paris. But on the fateful day of
the departure, Anta leaves whilst Mory remains alone on the quayside,
unable to let go of his homeland. Forty years on,
Mille Soleils looks at the film's
legacy and asks what has happened since. Magaye Niang, the film's
hero, has never set foot outside Dakar. Today, the old cowboy wonders
what became of Anta, his first love.
