Film Synopsis

Arriving in Rome at the age of 19, Nina finds work as chambermaid in a rundown hotel.  It is here that she meets the eccentric Contessa Sanziani, who decides to play the part of her fairy godmother, by improving her appearance and making her into a more sophisticated woman.  Later, she meets a screenwriter named Mario who introduces her to a film director, Antonio Vicari.  The Contessa's tragic death comes as a shock to Nina but she makes an impression on the director.  Before she knows it she is on the road to fame and fortune, all thanks to one strange old woman...
