Lon Chaney was an American actor, film director and screenwriter whose birth name was Leonidas Frank Chaney. He was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA on 1st April 1883 and died in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA on 26th August 1930, aged 47.

His best films as an actor include Rupert Julian's thriller The Phantom of the Opera (1925), George W. Hill's Tell It to the Marines (1926), Tod Browning's The Unknown (1927), West of Zanzibar (1928) and Bret Wood's Lon Chaney: Behind the Mask (1996), and whose best work as a film director include For Cash (1915) and The Phantom of the Opera (1925).
