Biography: life and films

Leslie Howard was an English actor, film director and producer. He was born in Forest Hill, London, England on 3rd April 1893 and died in Bay of Biscay on 1st June 1943, aged 50.

His best films as an actor include Robert Z. Leonard's Five and Ten (1931), John Cromwell's Of Human Bondage (1934), Harold Young's The Scarlet Pimpernel (1934), Anthony Asquith's Pygmalion (1938) and Gregory Ratoff's Intermezzo (1939), and whose best work as a film director include Pygmalion (1938), 'Pimpernel' Smith (1941) and The Gentle Sex (1943).
