Biography: life and films

Abstract picture representing Olivier Gourmet
Olivier Gourmet is a Belgian film actor. He was born in Namur, Belgium on 22 July 1963. It was through La Promise (1996), one of the first films from Belgium's leading auteur filmmakers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, that Gourmet first made an impression on francophone cinema. He subsequently featured in the Dardennes' acclaimed 1999 film Rosetta and then Le Fils (2002), for which he received the Best Actor Award at Cannes. Gourmet's naturalistic and introspective style of acting made him highly attractive to auteur filmmakers in France and Belgium and he has worked with some of the finest, including: Patrice Chéreau (Ceux qui m'aiment prendront le train), Jacques Audiard (Sur mes lèvres) and Ursula Meier (Home). In 2012 he received his first Cesar nomination, for his performance in Pierre Schöller' s political thriller L'Exercice de l'État (2011).
