Lionel Barrymore was an American actor and film director. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA on 28th April 1878 and died in Van Nuys, California, USA on 15th November 1954, aged 76.

His best films as an actor include Tod Browning's thriller West of Zanzibar (1928), George Cukor's Camille (1936), Frank Capra's comedy You Can't Take It with You (1938), It's a Wonderful Life (1946) and John Huston's crime-thriller Key Largo (1948), and whose best work as a film director include Life's Whirlpool (1917), Redemption (1930) and The Rogue Song (1930).
