Gene Kelly was an American actor, singer, film director and producer whose birth name was Eugene Curran Kelly. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA on 23rd August 1912 and died in Beverly Hills, California, USA on 2nd February 1996, aged 83.

His best films as an actor include Busby Berkeley's For Me and My Gal (1942), Vincente Minnelli's An American in Paris (1951), Stanley Donen's comedy Singin' in the Rain (1952), Stanley Kramer's Inherit the Wind (1960) and John Edwards's America's Sweetheart: The Mary Pickford Story (1978), and whose best work as a film director include On the Town (1949), Singin' in the Rain (1952) and Hello, Dolly! (1969).
