Tartarin de Tarascon (1934)
Directed by Raymond Bernard

Comedy / Drama

Film Synopsis

Tartarin is something of a legend in his hometown of Tarascon, thanks to his proud boasts of his hunting achievements, which no one disputes.  When an Arab chief invites him to take part in a hunting expedition, he has no choice but to accept.  If he refused, his reputation would surely be ruined.  The expedition gets off to a bad start when Tartarin shoots a lion that is revealed to be old and blind.  The big game hunter is unable to pay the fine because a man masquerading as a prince has decamped with his money.  To settle his debts, Tartarin must sell his equipment and sheepishly catch the next boat home.  Back home, the people of Tarascon can hardly wait to hear Tartarin's account of his latest exploits...
