Russia, towards the end of the 19th century. Accompanied by his uncle Kouzmitchov and the old priest Father Christophe, a young man named Jegoruska leaves his house lost in the vast expanse of the Russian steppes and sets out on a long journey to the city, so that he can complete his studies, as his mother wishes.

Film Review

La Steppa is an Italian-French adventure film first released in Italy on 17th January 1963, directed by Alberto Lattuada. The film is based on a novel by Anton Chekhov and stars Charles Vanel, Daniele Spallone, Cristina Gaioni, Pavle Vujisic and Marina Vlady.   It was produced by Moris Ergas and distributed by Columbia Film-Verleih. Location filming was in Yugoslavia.  

Our overall rating for La Steppa is: mediocre - watchable, but not unless you have something better to do,
