Biography: life and films

Abstract picture representing Claude Brasseur
Claude Brasseur (real name: Claude Espinasse) is a French film actor. He was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France on 15 June 1936. The son of two distinguished actors, Pierre Brasseur and Odette Joyeux, Claude Brasseur was destined for an acting career. He made his screen debut in the mid-1950s and worked with some of France's finest filmmakers, including Georges Franju, Marcel Carné, Michel Deville and Jean Renoir. Television provided a boost to his career in the mid-60s, so that by the time he starred in Yves Robert's Un éléphant ça trompe énormément (1976), in the role that won him his first César, he was a familiar face in France. In a career that spans more than half a century, Claude Brasseur has appeared in over 90 films, which range from popular comedies to serious dramas and thrillers. He has also been active in the theatre and on television, winning acclaim for his policier role in the TV series Franck Keller from 2003 to 2007.
